somebody on the leaderboard asked if "gaff" is an alternate spelling of "gaffe". it's not. gaff is a hooked stick used for fishing; gaffe is a blunder.
Not a good day for me on Mike's word: I had GAFFER at #14, but took until #19 to try GAFFE. From middle of the pack to DEAD LAST. Some days the magic works; some days it doesn't.
For that matter, I had INCUNABULA for Joon's word before I found INCUMBENT. Sheesh. See last sentence in previous paragraph.

For the record: twelve hours later at 11:27 PM EST I am still ABSOLUTELY DEAD LAST (98/98) on Mike's word today. An all-time low.
