a lot of people have guessed mitochondria today. only two have guessed mitochondrion. there's nothing inherently plural about this concept (unlike, say, algae), so i'm curious about this. for what it's worth, mitochondria seems like a more natural guess to me too. nevertheless, if i ever decide to use this as my word, i can't see a good reason for using the plural.

geez, even firefox's built-in spell-check is underlining mitochondrion but not mitochondria. what gives?
