Welcome to the Guess My Word blog. This is a place to discuss the words of the day chosen by Joon and Mike. This paragraph is here mostly as spoiler space. Here are today's words:
Whah! Frijole was my 19th guess, and I was out of guesses at that point. And, yes, the dictionary states that the plural is more common - that being said, the singular is not uncommon on the West Coast :-)
i also tried frijole first, but according to the NOAD, that's not even a word. i'm guessing it's only an acceptable guess in the GMW dictionary as a back-formation; the correct singular, from the spanish, is frijol. anyway, it didn't take me long to realize that i should try frijoles.

DeleteHmmmmm. Maybe this explains why you are ON Jeopardy - and I watch? Obviously frijoles would have "bean" the more logical and obvious choice.
DeleteNow here, I did presume the plural, since in English, I'm expecting the word to refer to a dish, not a single bean.
ReplyDeleteI'm embarrassed to have given up on Joon's word, but I couldn't stop thinking CAN-tan.
