It's funny that sometimes I get a strong sense that I've hit on the right answer, even though I haven't narrowed down the range all that much. I was between BIPOLAR and BITUMINOUS, and when I thought of joon's answer I thought it was very likely the answer. There are almost 200 words between BIPOLAR and the answer, and nearly another 100 between the answer and BITUMINOUS.
