my NOAD has "lapdog" as the main entry and "also: lap dog". but in answer to jon's question, it's TWL, the same word list used for north american scrabble tournaments.
I find it interesting how many people guessed "lanyard" and "lapel" on the way to lapdog. There must not be a wide variety of words that come to mind in that region of the dictionary. :)
a while back, somebody (don't remember who) made a word cloud out of the guess histories for a given day. it was pretty cool. maybe i'll try to add that as an option if i can figure out how to automate it.
I was stuck with lapel and lapboard, and just couldn't come up with Mike's word. Crestfallen, after my lucky hit on Joon's--just trying to find an upper bracket and hit on it. Now off to check the word cloud--new concept for me.
I would have sworn Mike's word is two words. What dictionary are we using, again?
ReplyDeleteOops! "L" on the leaderboard for Joon's word was supposed to be "Lane." For what it's worth...

ReplyDeletewell, i'm tinkering with this on the fly, but i've added a link to view the word cloud from the leaderboard. seems to work.
