Welcome to the Guess My Word blog. This is a place to discuss the words of the
day chosen by Joon and Mike. This paragraph is here mostly as spoiler space.
Here are today's words:
It's irritating to be a hair's breadth from a word and not be able to make the leap. I could come up with "requisition" but couldn't come up with "requisite." But by then I was up to 22 guesses, so it didn't matter much...
Speaking of which, I was just wondering whether there's a meaningful comparison between the number of solvers on the leaderboard and the number of players shown on the first game page. It looks like 26 people (37%) dropped out of Joon's game today, but only 9 (18%) from Mike's. These numbers seem relevant for display with the leaderboards, if you ever have reason to get back into the code....
My related question was whether the play count minus the number of recorded solutions is a reliable count of dropouts. Maybe some people solve but don't leave their name? Or maybe some people somehow trip the counter twice? Is there any way of knowing any of that?
it's not 100% reliable, because no, there is no way (currently) of knowing those things. the only solution would be to go to an account-based system, which i don't want to do.
I thought it was interesting that the guess count for today's word seemed high... it can be hard to triangulate sometimes. I usually use 'requisite' but today I tried 'requisition' first. Tsk.

ReplyDeleteyeah, i should probably display or at least record those numbers somewhere. as it stands, play counts for past days are irretrievably lost.

there are a lot of in- words and a lot of re- words, so the high guess counts were not surprising to me.
