Welcome to the Guess My Word blog. This is a place to discuss the words of the day chosen by Joon and Mike. This paragraph is here mostly as spoiler space. Here are today's words:
How devilish to choose a word with an alternate spelling, Joon. Surprisingly, I first typed "savor", then typed it the way I normally would "savour" and finally tried "savory".
I had "savor" and "sawhorse," between which are about 50 words, including savvy, sawdust, and a bunch more saw- words. But my spidey sense got me to the right answer on the first try.
It appears that "savour" is just the British spelling, just like "labour." I wonder if the word is used more often in Britain, if it explains why it may seem like a common variation here. My Mac's OAD agrees. This Macmillan link is a great source for comparing US and British usage. See the link for switching between US and British....
