Just about everybody guessed the plural of Mike's word before the actual word. I think it's a bit strange because I think it wouldn't have happened with various other words in the category, such as boot, wader, mukluk, etc.
i would put wader in the same category, but not boot. i often have cause to talk about boot in the singular (e.g. give someone the boot) but i don't believe i have ever used the word galosh.
never used mukluk or mukluks, so i can't speak to that one.
This is one of the very rare times when I guessed the singular first even though my instinct told me it should be plural. (And it still seems that it should be....)
