I got lucky on these. I started with five minutes to spare until the new day's words came in, on my phone with its slow load times and my slow typing, and both times fairly accidentally came upon the word where I can usually expect four or five turns of micro-narrowing. To boot, I got Mike's word (after Joon's) with less than a minute before the hour was up.
The last time I was down to the wire, I took too long and the words switched transparently. ("Tetherball" was the word, and I had already established "tether" as my closest guess before it. The next day's word began with S, so when I got "tetherball," it was red with "tether" still blue. I lost my mind and hit the "give up" button, saw the S word and realized what had happened. It was a small consolation that I hadn't heard the new word before, and had therefore saved myself some frustration by spoiling myself on it.)
