@Joon -- As I was getting to your word today, the dictionary rejected CRABCAKE as a guess. It's everywhere listed as a variant of CRAB CAKE. What's the policy (if there is one) on things like that? (SLOTCAR, BOTTLEROCKET, etc.)
BTW, it was a tickle today to use your word on the way to Mike's!
there's no policy, of course. whatever's in the word list is a valid guess, and whatever isn't isn't. for the record, i don't know what you mean by "everywhere", since neither of the two dictionaries i use often (MW11 and NOAD) have a listing for "crabcake" (or even "crab cake", for that matter). MW has "slot car" (but not slotcar); neither has "bottle rocket". and none of them are in the word list used in GMW.

ReplyDeleteI was sloppy. "Everywhere" in this context means "In nearly all the definitions that come up when you google 'crabcake' ".
