Joon: I tried to use MURIATIC as a first guess today, and it's not in your dictionary. Since muriatic acid is the hardware store name for hydrochloric acid (typically at 32% concentration, but who cares), I would think that makes it "in common usage." Do you agree?
the dictionaries i consulted have an entry for muriatic acid, but not for muriatic on its own. i think that's why it's not in the scrabble dictionary. that makes it kind of like helter or nilly, maybe.
Yeah, that makes sense. I have found dictionaries where MURIATIC is defined as "referring to brine," which I guess is because of the chlorine ion common to HCl and NaCl. Thanks for the info.
