I am pretty sure I've never heard of 'wendigo,' (which is red-lined here) and what I read does not make me want to explore further. Perhaps you have seen Algonquin artwork (modern especially)-- it's very dark, with threatening images and repellant designs. Appalling to me.

i missed it, too. feels like a word i have heard before but i did not know what it meant until looking it up just now.
