kinkajou was used very, very early in the history of GMW. i think it may have been like the 3rd word i ever chose. the vast majority of players (admittedly this was only like 20 people at the time) said they'd never heard of it. tyler hinman knew it; apparently he and his sister "adopted" one from the zoo as children. (i think in the sense of adopt-a-highway rather than actually bringing one home as a pet.)
anyway, the kinkajou backlash has made me a little wary about using specialized vocabulary in GMW.
I learned that word from, of all places, the Mystery Science Theater 3000 Amazing Colossal Episode Guide. One of their early films featured a creature they had decided was a lemur, to the point of writing an entire nonsense song about him. They felt the need to correct their past mistake, as it was in fact a kinkajou.
Many hours of my childhood were devoted to looking at all the World Book animal pictures, and natural history books were my most common reads after biographies. KINKAJOU would have been a great word...but I didn't know about GMW until Ben Bass wrote about it. Darn. Too few opportunities to use my misspent youth/memories.
I got Joon's word, but in my heart of hearts I still think it should have been KINKAJOU. When I get my own puzzle I'll put that in.
